Advanced Composites Group (ACG) has more than 40 years' experience in formulating prepregs for the aerospace and defence industries. The Group's willingness to provide bespoke solutions for specific applications and environments is what sets it apart from its competitors and has been a key feature in establishing it as a world leader in the formulation of materials for ballistic and armour applications, supplying countless companies around the globe.
Typical applications of these prepregs include a wide range of:
• Combat helmets.
• Rigid body armour.
• Vehicle armour for military and civilian applications.
• Bank counters.
• Secure door structures for buildings and aircraft.
• Spall liners and aircrew seating.
ACG's prepregs can be combined with a myriad of other materials, including ceramic, steel or carbon prepreg, to provide very high levels of protection, and materials for structural applications.
For armour applications, ACG offers a wide range of prepregs based upon reinforcements made from E-glass, high performance glass (including: S2-Glass, HiPer-tex™ and shield strand), Aramid, Nylon, and HDPE. These prepregs are manufactured from proprietary phenolic, epoxy and polyester/vinyl ester based resin formulations and utilise low resin contents, which renders them capable of producing a semi-structural component that has a controlled delamination on impact, providing maximum ballistic protection from a light-weight panel. ACG also manufactures a wide range of low flammability and reduced smoke and toxic gas emission ballistic prepregs to suit specific application requirements.
ACG is one of a limited number of prepreg manufacturers capable of producing the AGY S2-Glass based ballistic system 'HJ1' that combines low cost with high performance.
