Umeco is pleased to sponsor and support Gavin Chamberlain in his challenge to run the 2012 Mount Everest Marathon, the ‘highest marathon on Earth’. Gavin is embarking on this challenge to raise funds for Edward Bright, an 11 year old boy who contracted the rare and serious Y-strain meningococcal septicaemia in February 2007. The illness claimed his legs, and both of his arms below the elbow, and also damaged a large proportion of his skin.

The 'Druid Challenge'

Gavin took part in what he referred to as an "84 miler" where, over three consecutive days, running 29 miles on the first day, 27 miles on the second and 28 miles on the third!

Referred to by the organisers as the 'Druid Challenge', the route follows the Ridgeway path from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Overton, which is just North of Barbury Castle near Swindon in Wiltshire. This event suits those who want a new challenge, people looking for an alternative to running marathons, those training for events like the Marathon des Sables or anyone who loves seeing the beautiful English countryside. As Gavin puts it, "This is one of many training events that I will take part in to prepare for the 2012 Mount Everest Marathon."

Gavin completed this challenge in 14 hours and 25 minutes, and came in 25th out of 217 entrants. That's nothing short of amazing! Well done Gavin!
