Laboratory Technician

(Mechanical Test Group, UCSM Technology Centre)

The Laboratory Technician role will involve the manufacture, preparation and mechanical testing of various prepregs and adhesives for data generation and batch release. Skilled lamination and cure techniques will be required and the ability to run complex mechanical test equipment. The role will report to the Mechanical test laboratory manager.

The suitable candidate will be observant, detail conscious, practically minded and capable of maintaining the highest levels of laboratory cleanliness. They must be self-driven, motivated and able to work with limited supervision.

Candidates are likely to be educated to 'A' level standards in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or an appropriate science. However, applicants with some knowledge of chemistry or physics and laboratory experience will be considered, as will someone with in-depth composite manufacturing knowledge. More importantly is a can do attitude and a willingness to learn and become involved in all aspects of the role. Some shift working may be required.

Applied R&T Technologist

(UCSM Technology Centre)

The Umeco Composites Structural Materials R&T department has a vacancy for a Technologist to work in our busy, modern laboratories, alongside a committed team of chemists, engineers and technicians.

The roles will involve the operation of analytical and industrial equipment, and the manufacture and preparation of components and tools. The successful applicant will work with project engineers in the Applied R&D group providing technical solutions for internal and external customers.

Suitable candidates will be observant, detail conscious, practically minded and capable of maintaining high levels of laboratory cleanliness. Manual dexterity will be needed, along with a desire to work with equipment found in a technical environment.

Candidates are likely to be educated to “A” level standard in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or an appropriate science. Applicants with some knowledge of chemistry or engineering will be considered.

Successful applicants will be expected to work with minimal supervision and be confident presenting results when required.

Previous experience in an R&T or production environment is an advantage, but not essential. Experience laminating, curing and preparing cured composite components and tools is a distinct advantage.

Training will be provided in the techniques used for preparing composites, typically used in motor racing, aerospace, marine and automotive markets. It is anticipated the job will develop over the years as new skills, equipment and technologies emerge.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Automotive Market Sector Manager

As part of our continued world-wide growth programme, we now have a vacancy for an automotive market sector manager.

Successful candidates will play a key role in building, from an established base, the Group’s sales in the automotive sector.  

In addition to managing a varied and busy workload, working together with the Automotive Marketing Manager, candidates will be responsible for:

  • developing and maintaining a 5+ year rolling strategy for ACG within the automotive market,
  • identifying new short, medium and long term sales opportunities,
  • proactively generating and maintaining advertising exhibition, product literature and press release activity,
  • defining the new product development strategy.

Ideally, candidates will have substantial, proven experience of the use of composites and relevant manufacturing processes in the automotive market, as well as a good knowledge of the advanced composites Industry. In addition, the ideal candidate should be self-motivated and ambitious, will have an excellent track record of business development, and be able to commit to relevant travel.

As part of our continued worldwide growth programme, we now have a new position based at our Engineering Division.

Successful candidates will play a key role in building, from an established base, the Division’s sales both in the UK and globally.

As well as managing a varied and busy workload, the successful candidate will be responsible for annual budget setting and account servicing, and for developing robust, long term business opportunities across a wide range of industry sectors.

Ideally, candidates will have several years’ direct sales management experience gained within an engineering environment, and possess broad knowledge of the advanced composites industry. As well as being self-motivated and ambitious, the ideal candidate will have an excellent track record of business development and be able to commit to relevant travel.

A comprehensive understanding of the technical issues related to selling advanced composite hardware would be a distinct advantage.
